SAN DIEGO, CA – The High Tech High Foundation is gearing up for a momentous gala celebrating its 25th anniversary on October 5, 2024, at the San Diego Central Library. This event not only honors the foundation’s journey but also highlights its ongoing commitment to education and student support.
“The foundation started when High Tech High only had one school, and in the last 25 years, that one has grown into 16 schools,” said Audrey Gans, CEO of the High Tech High Foundation. “The schools represent every area code within San Diego County. So they’re very diverse schools, and our job as a foundation is just to support those schools.”
The foundation’s mission focuses on providing scholarships to students and enhancing the educational experience for those attending High Tech High. “A significant portion of the funds we’re raising is going towards scholarships for our high school students… half of our students in high school are going to be first-time college students,” Gans shared.
She also emphasized the importance of college counseling, noting, “Every school has college counselors… to really walk these families that may have never been exposed to the college application process through how to get into college.” This supportive approach helps prepare students for the next steps in their educational journeys.
The gala aims to celebrate the foundation’s achievements while fostering community support and honoring individuals who have made significant contributions. “I think this gala is going to be our biggest achievement… it’s actually going to be a really heartfelt night with everybody finally thanking him,” Gans expressed, referring to Larry Rosenstock, who founded High Tech High and retired in 2020 during COVID. “This is the first time we’re doing it after 25 years, and it also honors Larry. There was never really a retirement party or a goodbye to him. So it’s actually going to be a really heartfelt night with everybody finally thanking him and providing good closure for his hard work in the 20 years he ran it, and also celebrating that we’ve made it to 25 years.”
Gans acknowledged the dedication of parents and families within the community, stating, “The schools are the parents to rely on the foundation, in the sense that the schools’ model is to have very small schools… it’s a small and powerful parent group.”
As the foundation looks toward the future, Gans shared, “The foundation is really in an exciting place right now… there’s a lot of energy behind it. So yeah, we welcome involvement.”
In closing, Gans expressed gratitude to supporters: “Thank you for supporting this organization. Over the last 25 years, it has been amazing… to watch the growth and love that has come out of the High Tech High School experience.”

La Fundación High Tech High se está preparando para una gala trascendental que celebrará su 25° aniversario el 5 de octubre de 2024, en la Biblioteca Central de San Diego. Este evento no solo honra el recorrido de la fundación, sino que también resalta su compromiso continuo con la educación y el apoyo a los estudiantes.
“La fundación comenzó cuando High Tech High solo tenía una escuela, y en los últimos 25 años, esa única escuela ha crecido a 16 escuelas,” dijo Audrey Gans, CEO de la Fundación High Tech High. “Las escuelas representan todos los códigos de área dentro del condado de San Diego. Así que son escuelas muy diversas, y nuestro trabajo como fundación es simplemente apoyar a esas escuelas.”
La misión de la fundación se centra en proporcionar becas a los estudiantes y mejorar la experiencia educativa de quienes asisten a High Tech High. “Una porción significativa de los fondos que estamos recaudando se destina a becas para nuestros estudiantes de secundaria… la mitad de nuestros estudiantes en secundaria serán estudiantes universitarios por primera vez,” compartió Gans.
También enfatizó la importancia del asesoramiento universitario, señalando: “Cada escuela tiene consejeros universitarios… para guiar a estas familias que pueden no haber estado expuestas al proceso de solicitud universitaria sobre cómo ingresar a la universidad.” Este enfoque de apoyo ayuda a preparar a los estudiantes para los siguientes pasos en sus trayectorias educativas.
La gala tiene como objetivo celebrar los logros de la fundación, al tiempo que fomenta el apoyo de la comunidad y honra a las personas que han hecho contribuciones significativas. “Creo que esta gala va a ser nuestro mayor logro… en realidad va a ser una noche muy emotiva en la que todos finalmente lo agradecerán,” expresó Gans, refiriéndose a Larry Rosenstock, quien fundó High Tech High y se retiró en 2020 durante COVID. “Esta es la primera vez que lo hacemos después de 25 años, y también honra a Larry. Nunca hubo realmente una fiesta de jubilación o una despedida para él. Así que, en realidad, va a ser una noche muy emotiva en la que todos finalmente le agradecerán y proporcionarán un buen cierre por su arduo trabajo durante los 20 años que estuvo al frente, y también celebraremos que hemos llegado a 25 años.”
Gans reconoció la dedicación de los padres y familias dentro de la comunidad, afirmando: “Las escuelas son los padres en quienes la fundación puede confiar, en el sentido de que el modelo de las escuelas es tener escuelas muy pequeñas… es un grupo de padres pequeño y poderoso.”
