The program, in its second year, aims to champion students who have overcome significant challenges in their lives, but have managed to keep, or get back on track with their education. Birch Aquarium and Cincinnati Zoo Join Forces to Bolster the Little Blue Penguins Population in the U.S.

(Photo credit: Birch Aquarium) La Jolla — Five Little Blue Penguins from Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego embarked on a 2,000-mile cross-country move to Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. The move is part of an international Species Survival Plan (SSP) that works to maintain the genetic diversity of certain species in zoos and aquariums.  This year, SSP coordinators for Little Blue Penguins recommended that our penguins —  Sheldon, Squid, Craig, Odette and Bo — become part of new breeding colonies at Cincinnati Zoo. City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges ranked among top in U.S. for Hispanic students

(Photo credit: Mesa College) San Diego - San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, and San Diego Miramar College have been recognized as among the top 100 colleges in the country for enrollment of Hispanic/Latino students, according to a ranking by Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine. Among two-year colleges across the United States, San Diego City College was ranked 35th, while Miramar College was ranked 68th. Mesa College was ranked 45th for four-year colleges and universities. The figures are based on enrollment during the 2020-21 academic year, using data from the U.S. Department of Education.
