SAN DIEGO, CA — This holiday season, several local organizations are stepping up to bring joy to children and families in need through toy donation drives. From fire stations to airports, San Diegans have numerous opportunities to contribute to these heartwarming efforts. San Diego Fire-Rescue’s Toys for Tots Program San Diego Fire-Rescue (SDFD) has partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program for over 20 years. All SDFD fire stations and select lifeguard stations will accept new, unwrapped toys and books through Friday, Dec. 20. Housing and Resources Provided to Those Affected by Encampment Near I-5 and Friars Road SAN DIEGO – The City of San Diego has completed a four-month effort to address homelessness along the San Diego River, culminating in the removal of a large encampment near I-5 and Friars Road. The project, which finished on November 8, 2024, resulted in the removal of 78 tons (156,000 pounds) of waste and debris from the area.
