Job Seekers Can Connect with Employers, Gain Interview Experience, and Build Professional Skills
San Diego – Young people looking to jumpstart their careers will have a valuable opportunity at the third annual Youth-Led Career Expo, hosted by the San Diego Promise Zone in partnership with the City of San Diego. The event takes place on Tuesday, March 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Balboa Park Club and Recital Hall and aims to help those aged 16 to 24 discover career options, connect with employers, and develop job-readiness skills.
Opportunities for Young Job Seekers
Attendees can meet with more than 30 employers, including City of San Diego departments, Goodwill Industries of San Diego County, Kitchens for Good, Bill Howe Family of Companies, SeaWorld San Diego, Family Health Centers of San Diego, Mingei International Museum, the Electrical Training Institute, and branches of the U.S. military. These organizations represent diverse industries, providing a broad spectrum of career paths to explore.
Job training and career readiness groups will also be available to assist young attendees in identifying career interests, refining resumes, and preparing for job interviews. Those new to resume writing can receive guidance, and participants can take advantage of mock interviews, free professional headshots, and a raffle with prizes, including refurbished laptops.
New Interactive Workshops
A new addition to this year’s event is a series of 15-minute “bite-sized workshops” covering essential career-building skills. Attendees can practice their elevator pitches, sharpen networking abilities, and learn strategies to make strong first impressions in professional settings.
Empowering San Diego’s Youth Workforce
Economic Development Director Christina Bibler emphasized the importance of providing young people with access to career opportunities:
“Career fairs like this one help youth and young adults explore their passions while equipping them with the tools, resources, and employer connections they need to succeed. The City is committed to ensuring our youth have pathways to well-paying jobs, and this event reflects that commitment.”
Raquel Aparicio, co-chair of the Promise Zone Jobs & Education Working Group, highlighted the event’s youth-focused approach:
“This year’s expo reflects what young people have asked for—workshops and vendors tailored to their needs. It’s inspiring to see them take charge of their futures, making connections that support their personal and professional growth.”
The San Diego Promise Zone’s Impact
The San Diego Promise Zone spans East Village and Barrio Logan to Encanto, connecting over 85 organizations to support more than 80,000 residents. Since its federal designation in 2016, initiatives within the Promise Zone have helped reduce unemployment from 14% to 10% and lower the poverty rate from 35% to 20% by 2022.

San Diego – Los jóvenes que buscan iniciar sus carreras tendrán una gran oportunidad en la tercera Expo de Empleo Juvenil, organizada por la San Diego Promise Zone en colaboración con la Ciudad de San Diego. El evento se llevará a cabo el martes 18 de marzo, de 10 a. m. a 1 p. m. en el Balboa Park Club y Recital Hall. Está dirigido a jóvenes de 16 a 24 años que desean explorar opciones profesionales, conectarse con empleadores y desarrollar habilidades para el mercado laboral.
