San Diego’s Finest: Local Schools Gear Up for Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals

San Diego, CA – Tomorrow December 9th, the prestigious 44th Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Final is set to unfold at Balboa Park, San Diego, attracting the top 80 high school distance runners from around the nation. Among the contenders is Chiara Dailey, a standout athlete hailing from La Jolla High School and representing the West region.

The renowned 5,000-meter course at Balboa Park has witnessed the ascent of running legends such as Olympians Molly Seidel, Cole Hocker, Ryan Hall, Meb Keflezighi, and Kara Goucher. Dailey, having qualified through the West regional championship race in Walnut, CA, is primed to compete on a stage that has launched the professional careers of illustrious runners.

The Foot Locker Cross Country Championships features a rigorous selection process, with four regional 5K races held in Kenosha, WI (Midwest), Boston, MA (Northeast), Charlotte, NC (South), and Walnut, CA (West). The top 10 boys and girls from each region earn the right to vie for national glory in the Finals.

The competition schedule kicks off with the Girls’ race at 9:15 a.m. PST, preceded by introductions at 9:00 a.m. PST. The Boys’ race follows at 10:00 a.m. PST, with introductions beginning at 9:45 a.m. PST. The Awards Ceremony, held onsite at the Championship Course in Balboa Park, is slated for 10:30 a.m. PST.
