San Diego, CA – On Monday, June 26, Girl Scouts San Diego (GSSD) kicked off its 2023 summer camp programs. Through Sunday, Aug. 6, more than 1,800 Girl Scouts from across San Diego and Imperial counties will explore nature through hiking and horseback riding, seek adventures on the ropes course, and try their hand at outdoor cooking, engineering, wilderness survival, theater, and more.
This year, Girl Scouts San Diego is offering 170 camp sessions that take place on four properties across San Diego County—Day Camps at Balboa Campus and Escondido Program Center (for youth entering grades K-12) and Sleepaway Camps at Whispering Oaks and Winacka in Julian, CA (for youth entering grades 2-12). Girl Scouts San Diego hired nearly 150 seasonal staff to make 2023 summer camp possible.
“My favorite part of every summer is witnessing Girl Scouts overcome their initial apprehension when trying something new and discovering their confidence,” said Carol Dedrich, CEO of Girl Scouts San Diego. “The joy on their faces is priceless. First-time outdoor experiences like leading a hike, hitting a bullseye on the archery range, engaging in hands-on STEM activities, or training to become a future camp counselor develop in girls a can-do attitude.”
Space is still open at Girl Scouts San Diego’s summer camps, and financial assistance is available. To learn more, visit sdgirlscouts.org/camp.
