NATIONAL CITY — En un importante impulso a la vivienda asequible en la región, Union Tower celebró oficialmente su inauguración el lunes 16 de septiembre de 2024. Este nuevo desarrollo traerá 94 unidades de vivienda asequible a National City, abordando una necesidad urgente para familias de bajos ingresos y veteranos en el área.
La ceremonia de inauguración contó con la presencia de funcionarios locales, líderes sindicales de la construcción, desarrolladores de vivienda asequible y defensores comunitarios. Union Tower es el resultado de un esfuerzo colaborativo entre el San Diego County Building and Construction Trades Council (SDBTC) Family Housing Corporation y Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation.
Union Tower se levantará en el sitio de National City Park Apartments, un proveedor de vivienda asequible durante más de 50 años. NATIONAL CITY — In a boost to affordable housing in the region, Union Tower officially broke ground on Monday. This new development will bring 94 affordable housing units to National City, addressing a pressing need for low-income families and veterans in the area.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local officials, construction union leaders, affordable housing developers, and community advocates. Union Tower is the result of a collaborative effort between the San Diego County Building and Construction Trades Council (SDBTC) Family Housing Corporation and Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation.
Union Tower will rise on the site of the National City Park Apartments, a long-standing provider of affordable housing for over 50 years. The project will replace two outdated 16-unit buildings with two modern structures, providing a total of 94 apartments. Notably, 24 of these units will be designated for veterans experiencing homelessness.
“Union Tower is an investment in National City and a promise to its families,” said Carol Kim, CEO and Chair of the SDBTC Family Housing Corporation. “This project not only delivers essential affordable housing but also creates high-quality jobs and preserves the affordability of the existing 456-unit National City Park Apartments.”
Rebecca Louie, President and CEO of Wakeland Housing, highlighted the transformative impact of the project. “Union Tower will improve lives by providing stable housing that supports better health and education outcomes,” Louie said. “It also helps end homelessness for 24 local veterans and generates quality jobs for the community.”
