SAN DIEGO – The American Red Cross continues to assist those impacted by storms throughout San Diego County. Red Cross volunteers are currently operating a shelter at Balboa Park Municipal Gym (2111 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101). The San Diego Humane Society is also on-site to provide co-located sheltering for pets of those affected. At the request of emergency management partners, the Lincoln Senior High School shelter location will be closing at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1 and shelter residents will be transitioned to the Red Cross shelter at Balboa Park Municipal Gym.
Everyone is welcome at a Red Cross shelter, and anyone affected by the storms is encouraged to stop by the Balboa Park Municipal Gym Red Cross shelter to access Red Cross services, whether or not they are staying at the shelter. Trained Red Cross volunteers and staff remain on call around-the-clock and are ready to assist in various aspects of disaster response efforts, including sheltering, feeding, and more, as well as damage assessment and recovery assistance for those impacted by the winter storm.
At Red Cross shelters, Red Cross volunteers and partners provide a safe place to stay, along with meals and snacks, hydration, health services, emotional support and more. The Red Cross remains in close contact with emergency management partners to assess response needs and we are prepared to open additional shelters as needed.
